Tallulah Belle Willis Evelyn Penn Willis is a well-known figure in the history of feminism. She was born on July 3, 1877, in Buffalo, New York, to Julia Margaret (née Spaulding) and George Washington Willis. At 12, Tallulah became an orphan after her father died suddenly from a stroke. Tallulah then lived with her maternal grandparents for a year before moving into a boarding school in Pennsylvania.
While attending this school, she became close friends with future feminist icon Betty Friedan. In 1905, Willis graduated from Smith College with a degree in sociology.
Later that year, she started work as an editor for The Masses, one of the earliest leftist magazines in the United States. The following year, she co-founded the radical feminist group Sorosis with Friedan and other women. In 1909, Willis married sociologist Richard Rorty. They divorced in 1917. Willis died on November 12, 1992, at 92 years old.

After Griffith died in 1948, Willis withdrew from the public eye for several years but returned to acting in the 1970s with roles in such films as “Starstruck” (1976) and “The Return of Birdman” (1978). She retired from acting in 1985 but has made occasional appearances since then. Tallulah Belle Willis passed away on March 11, 2002, at 92, after a long bout with Alzheimer’s disease.

Tallulah Willis passed away at age 80 on September 9, 1996, in Beverly Hills, California, after a long battle with lung cancer.
